Shouldn't the fountain already be considered a historical landmark?

Hi I wanted to place another post because there's been another question nagging me about this whole thing. Once a landmark has hit the 40 year mark is it not considered a historical landmark? Cause if so we should try to fight this at that angel by claiming it a historical lndmark cause as far as I know they would not be able to touch it after that. So if that were possible I would have to say try it. Cause once it was considered a historical landmark then there is no rights to demolishing it or anything else. I'd hate to see this fountain go I use to live up in N.Y and while I was there A church that had stood for 100 years had been demolished to build a new church and people screamed and complained just as we are for our fountain but in the end it got taken down just before it got the chance to be claimed a historical landmark if it had that church would still be standing now.
So I just wanted to tell everyone who reads this please keep up the fight and don't hesitate to tell friends about this and this site cause I don't think alot of people realize the plans for the fountain if they did I think we'd have a lot more supporters behind us. Perhaps some people who are really into devoting there time should go downtown once with a sign explaining the situation about the fountain to make others aware. Anyway thanks for viewing I enjoyed adding my piece in here

Actually I suggested (or asked) what would it take to get Friendship Fountain designated as a Landmark, even if only by a City Council Proclamation as that would, in my mind, afford some protection to this Great Landmark along our River that is so identifiable with Downtown Jacksonville.
Thanks for posting this and remember our only hope is to make sure our elected officials are made aware of the Importance of Friendship Fountain to so many of the citizens of Jacksonville.
