The "Naked Fountain"
Refurbishing the Fountain.

City of Jacksonville's  Preservation Project

Proposed by Mayor John Delaney, January 1999

Click here for current construction photos.

Here are some pictures of the "Naked Fountain", that is, the Fountain with no water!

One of the Outer Ring Nozzle Arrays.

This is one of the Outer Ring Nozzles and Light Arrays.
As you can see rust and corrosion have covered all aspects of these parts. I would assume that part of the
refurbishment will include replacing any non-functioning lights as well as possibly reboring the nozzles
to ensure a full water stream can be delivered?

Here is  picture of an access hatch that is opened up for inspection, these hatches are directly above the pipes that deliver the water to each set of nozzles for each of the three rings.  They are arranged in a circle and at each nozzle have an additional hatch over the individual water supply for each.
One of the many Access Hatches.

Corrosion is Heavy on the Main Delivery Pipe. Here is a close up of one of the exposed Main Water Delivery Pipes, as you can see the corrosion is extremely heavy and I would expect that some leakage may be occuring in some points of these pipes.  remember that I am making assumptions, and will get Bob Baughman to provide exact information as to the condition of all of this, once the initial assesment is complete.
I will continue to try and stay abreast of this, and if an opportunity arise to obtain more pictures, I will get them on-line as quickly as possible.

Here is a picture of the Center Ring Nozzles.

Once again thanks to the Parks Department  and Bob, for the information
and the determination, on the City's part, to make sure that the
Fountain will be a Center Piece of the Southbank.  This project will
ensure that the Fountain is Operating properly for the years to come, and
that visitors to the Fountain will experience a breathtaking view.

I would encourage everyone to take a moment and look at some
of the other recreational areas in Jacksonville.
